Snickerdoodles

Updated: Feb 2, 2023

Hello all! I’m back and feeling inspired and motivated this August. July was a busy one for me, but I’ve been cooking and baking all kinds of tasty recipes to share with you! Next up: Snickerdoodles! This recipe is the kind of website cookies you’ll actually want to accept. (Ha! I really am back.)

I made this recipe for my family last month while we were on vacation and I think that speaks for itself on how simple this is to whip up. Snickerdoodles are likely of Dutch or German descent, which surprised me, but the name really should have given it away.

Also, when I gave one of these to my grandma, she said she had never heard of a snickerdoodle and had never tried one? I was floored. Ummm, excuse me? How on God’s green Earth has one never heard of a snickerdoodle cookie before?

Disclaimer: This is not my recipe! I borrowed it from Spend With Pennies and it’s literally fool proof. My go-to recipe! Take a look here.

Wine Pairing Suggestions

Did you think I wasn’t gonna pair this with wine? Think again. Wine goes with everything. Bet. Try a slightly sweet Moscato with this cookie, or if sweet wines aren’t your favorite, try a mild Chardonnay. The sweet Moscato is a great pair for the snickerdoodle because of the complimentary flavors. A mild Chardonnay is one that is neither oak-y and butter-y nor sharp and acidic, but one in the middle of the road.

Snickerdoodle Cookies

Yield: 3 dozen

Prep: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, room temperature

  • 1 ½ cups sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 2 tsp cream of tartar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 3 Tbsp sugar

  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Also, take your butter out of the fridge to soften, if you haven't already done so.

  2. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt in a medium sized bowl and set that aside.

  3. Using a stand mixer, or a large bowl and a whisk, mix together the soft butter with the sugar. Once that is evenly mixed and incorporated, add the eggs and vanilla. Continue to mix the ingredients together until you have a fluffy and creamy mixture.

  4. Then, add the dry ingredients to the stand mixer, or large bowl, and mix on low until just combined.

  5. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone mat.

  6. Prepare the sugar and cinnamon mixture by combining 3 Tbsp of sugar with 1 Tbsp of cinnamon in a small and shallow bowl for rolling the cookie dough.

  7. Next, shape the dough into 1 inch round balls and roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until they're evenly coated. Repeat this process until you run out of cookie dough.

  8. Place the snickerdoodles on a prepared cookie sheet with 2” of space between the cookie dough balls.

  9. Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes.

  10. Once the cookies are ready, take them out of the oven, and place them on a cooling rack.

Enjoy!

I made these snickerdoodles for my roommate's birthday! And, I kid you not, four separate people came up to me at the party raving about them. My favorite quote being, "I'm so angry you didn't bring more," from someone who already had three. Make these puppers, you won't be sorry :)
